Paisley is a shape I find endlessly fascinating to paint. Rather than rendering precise, formal curls, I worked with free-flowing watercolours and inks, letting the paint pool organically on wet paper to create soft, feathery curves that echo botanical tendrils. It turns a centuries-old motif into something relaxed, fluid, and deeply contemporary.
When transferred onto our 100% organic cotton waffle fabric, the painterly texture takes on an almost three-dimensional depth. The raised grid of the waffle weave catches the light across the print, highlighting every subtle wash of colour from deep indigo to soft dusky sky. Beyond how it looks hanging over an apron rail, it is built for genuine daily labour.
